Reimagined Album

When making this project, I wanted to push myself and create something out of my comfort zone, whether this be through the use of color, or not being so minimalistic. I chose to use Franklin Gothic as my font because I wanted to use a sans-serif for legibility purposes, and with having a warp, twist, and arc on the main word “MOTION”, this type looked the best with the effects. I also knew I wanted to use a sans-serif especially for the letter "I" in motion because it looks best just as the stem, rather also with the serifs.

Throughout the process of making my cover, I did not use a grid in the front because I wanted to create motion and in doing so, I had to break from the grid and let the type flow with each other. In the back, I used a grid to layout the song titles and facts of the album, but once again leaving room for the type to break the grid and create more organic rhythm. I used the primary colors in the colored album and used different opacities of blue as well because I liked how they looked together and was completely different compared to the original album. Using these colors as well also allowed me to put more emphasis on the word “Motion” in yellow against the red background, and repeated blue type on the front. I also left a lot of white space on the back to put more attention to the words that are there, rather than adding information that isn’t necessary.

Overall, I am really proud of how my designs turned out and am happy I pushed myself to take my designs further throughout the iteration process.
